Multimedia 1 | Fall 2008 - Spring 2010
This course is designed to give each student a technical and theoretical foundation in the language of multimedia, specifically focusing on the foundations of interactivity. Fluency in essential web-based communication tools will be developed as students document their work through blog posts, audio, and video podcasts. Students will gain a thorough understanding of programming fundamentals, utilizing an array of open source tools for interactive content creation such as Scratch, Processing, and Quartz Composer. The class will foster an atmosphere of collaboration and constructive critique. Students are required to present their work and take part in the critiques of the work of their classmates. The objective of this class is to provide students with a strong core knowledge of the building blocks of interactivity that is portable and flexible in a media environment that requires constant adaptability.

Web Animation | Summer 2009 & 2010
This class will give each student a working knowledge of Adobe Flash, AcitionScript 3 and its core functionality. We will begin with Flash 'timeline animation' and proceed into the more advanced topics of object oriented programming, non linearity, interactivity, and user interface design.

Audio Art | Spring 2007
In this class we looked at different ways of creating, recording, and presenting works of sound including synthesis, field recording, and multi-channel pieces. We discussed the conceptual and technical aspects of the work of artists such as Max Neuhaus, John Cage, Alvin Lucier, Pauline Oliveros, and Janet Cardiff. Students made individual trips to galleries and museums showing sound art and presented weekly listenings of their own work and subjects from their experience that had relevance to the ideas discussed in class. This class included an introduction to the visual programming language, Max/MSP, and basic recording and audio production techniques. Guest speakers and critics inculded Hisham Bharoocha, Lauren Cornell, Luke DuBois, Shawn Greenlee, Chris Peck, Aaron Siegel, Nancy Hechinger and Ryan Holsopple. The class culminated in an exhibition of the students' final projects.

Communications Lab | Fall 2007
An introductory course designed to provide students with hands-on experience using various technologies (online communities, digital imaging, audio, video, animation, authoring environments and the World Wide Web.) The forms and uses of new communications technologies are explored in a laboratory context of experimentation and discussion. The technologies are examined as tools that can be employed in a variety of situations and experiences. Principles of interpersonal communications, media theory, and human factors are introduced. Weekly assignments, team and independent projects,and project reports are required.
